Hello and welcome to Jamango! Academy — your step-by-step guide for making games directly in your browser.
Jamango! is a free tool for you to get started making your very own games and experimenting with programming. There are no downloads, just pure creativity, so let’s get started!
In this series, we’re going to learn how to write code to make fun game mechanics in Jamango! Specifically, we’ll make an entire obby game and publish it to the world wide web, so we can play this game with our friends in online multiplayer or share it for other Jamango! players to enjoy.
We’ll create scripts to make:
- Spinning platforms
- Bounce pads
- A speedrun timer
- And more fun mechanics
This series will set you up really well for making bigger and better games in the future — and even if you’re brand new to coding or game development, you’re in the right place. Get hyped because this is gonna be great.
[Jamango! website homepage] We’ll begin on the Jamango! website and create a new world using the free base template. This world has some cool pre‑made assets that we’ll use throughout the series to create our obstacles. I’m going to name my game “Obby Course”, but feel free to choose any name you like.
When we load into the world, you’ll see the starter area from the template. In this series, we’ll build things from the ground up so you can become a Jamango! expert.
If you ever want to connect with other game devs like yourself, check out the Jamango! Discord server where you can ask questions, share progress updates, and participate in monthly challenges.
That’s all from me — in the next video, we’ll be placing platforms around the world to make some simple parkour challenges.
